"Down A Paper Trail"

THURSDAY, APRIL 1, 2010 7 - 10 p.m.
DROP BY THE GALLERY BETWEEN 7 and 10 PM AND MEET COLLAGE ARTIST, LAURA W. ADAMS FROM SAVANNAH, GEORGIA. Since leaving her law career behind some 13 years ago, Savannah artist Laura W. Adams has followed her muse to magical places. Her muse might be an elf - a resident of the lush North Carolina rain forest that surrounds the second home of Laura and her husband, David. Adams' multi-layered, highly textural collages are drawn from that place. Adams explains: "The forest opened the possibility of nature. It changed everything for me. The light, the wind - it feels magical. Its the kind of place elves would live." Over the years, Adams' work has developed into elaborate constructions that have a remarkable feeling of depth. The hundreds - or thousands- of pieces of hand-torn paper aren't just about color. Small glimmering pieces of metallic papers shimmer like leaves in the wind. Scale and scope create illusions of space and distance. One one hand, the work is abstract, representational at best; on the other, the scenes are immediately recognizable and mesmerizing. This is a show not to be missed!
