“A Brush with Photography: Surrealism Revisited”
David Swann
|
|
Thursday, August 6th The Gallery will be showing all new work in the main gallery and a few older works that have never been shown before in part of the back gallery. Many of the pieces in the exhibit are from another one ofDavid Swann's on-going portfolios entitled In Search of the Elusive Magritte— a photographic/mixed-media exercise exploring the minimalist approach to creating ‘mystery’ while constructing a mild, sometimes admittedly meaningless social commentary. In a way, this exhibition is his version of “going home.” By returning to his roots in surrealism, David is revisiting a place from my past that once gave him a sense of belonging. |

COMING UP FOR AIR

November What can you share about your upcoming solo exhibition of new works at Catherine Kelleghan Gallery? As with all my work, it’s about looking at the natural world and our relationship to it—the elements that complete us. These landscape paintings are looser and more abstracted, and I’ve used a strong color palette to maximize emotional impact. Of course, there are tonal paintings, as well, that are more subdued. My hope is to communicate what it is I’m seeing and feeling in reaction to the landscape and allow the viewer to construct his/her own experience. |
